This time, we really outclassed our self. During summer, I had an idea in mind for another improvement and finally, it was one of the best layouts we had (so far).
I just switched the station to lead the single track mainline to the other end and diagonally through a forest. This hides the main line from direct view of the spectators and they can watch the single scenes separately. It’s like a good model railroad when you have view blocks in front of the trains, like it would be on prototype railroads.
Due to the new routing, we were in need of some signals to avoid train wrecks. My dad stepped in and made 4 Banjo-style signals in just a couple of weeks. You can read more about them in the workreports. My dad also got into live steam and since we’re 4 steam engineers by now, we handled the whole service with the two steam locos only. The battery loco was stored the most time.
I’m sure we’ll take parts of this layout for the 2015 show again, since the operation and routing was just perfect and we had a lot of fun.
