[WBE] digging out the mill creek

Hi folks,

I just got the “go” for the Exhibition in Sinsheim/Germany on March 9-11th. So it’s time to get some more progress done on the new module.

I made a cut out to the module box just beside the sawmill to add the mill creek. I added strips of plywood to gain some depth and finally a sheet of plywood below to form a canal.

The whole canal is revetted with sand stone. I used some structure sheets from Vollmer and colored them to match the sand stone we have in our region. The riverbed got simply painted and some stones and greens added. I than spend 4 “fills” of Woodland water to create the water surface.

The water-wheel will be placed in the right channel, so I added a wall to hold the bearing. At the far edge of the module, I’ll add two water locks to regulate the overflow (left) and the water-wheel. With the mill creek done, I was able to fit in the last two pieces of track. I used some old code 100 rails as bridge trusses. Should work for such a slim gauge logging line ;-)

No I’ve to wait for some electronic bits I had to order, before I can finish the wiring. The turnout mechanisms are already in place and connected.

    In wiring your controls for your Peco HOn30 switches what kind of a toggle switch do you use? Is it a DPDT Toggle Switch? Can you post a wiring diagram for your switches? If you are using DCC how do you wire your modules? If they are just straight DC I suppose that it is just regular DC wiring.
    Since small metal rods are rather expensive I think that I will use wire obtained from regular metal coat hangers to control my switches.

      Hi Jack,
      yes, I use submini toggle switches for the turnouts. There are good wiring diagrams on google, I send you one by mail.
      May layout runs on DC.

    ….nette Idee mit dem Umbau des Schaufelrad`s der Wassermühle,jedoch sehe ich da einen riesen Denkfehler :
    Das Sägeblatt der Gattersäge würde nun ja quer zur Säge Richtung stehen.Vielleicht
    hätte man dieses Teilstück 30 cm breit machen sollen und das Gebäude so belassen sollen.Dann wäre auch noch ein Weg für Fahrzeuge drin.Ansonsten immer super Arbeit von Dir.

      Hallo Holger,
      ich habe natürlich entsprechend recherchiert und mir auch viele Gedanken zu diesem Thema gemacht.
      für das Gesamtbild wollte ich auf jeden Fall die 20cm Tiefe beibehalten, zumal es sonst nicht in meine Regalanlage oder die Staukästen paßt.
      Das Wasserrad quer zur Sägerichtung ist nicht üblich, aber durchaus auch beim Original zu finden. In jeder Getreidemühle gab es bereits Eckzahnräder, um die Drehrichtung um 90° zu ändern.
      Da sich mein Sägewerk oben in den Wäldern befindet, ist es komplett per Bahn erschlossen. Fuhrwerke (die Bahn ist ja in den 20/30er Jahren angesiedelt) kommen hier oben nur selten hin.
