finally, I got the stencils to add lettering to my rebuild steam locos. I use the TTF “Railroad Roman” which is close to the common letters in the 1920th on US narrow gauge rolling stock. I swaged them a bit to match my rolling stock, which is also a bit shorter than it should be in scale.
The stencils are cnc-milled from 1mm styrene sheet and I hold them in place with masking tape. The letters are painted with the airbrush. The small gaps where the inner parts of the Letters ‘B’ and ‘R’ were hold in place, are hand painted afterwards with a thin pencil. The Letters are 20mm high, the locos road numbers were 30mm.
After the Shay, I finished the Forney as well, which is the first loco in “full operational condition” after the rebuild. The Shay still waits for the new lubricator mechanism while I’m waiting for ordered parts for that.
